40 Days of Prayer - Day 6
Day 6: He Must Become Greater
PRAY
Pray that the Lord will show you areas of your life and service to your church family where you need to decrease so His will, plans and desires can increase.
John 3:30
“He must increase, but I must decrease.”
Being involved in ministry and service within your church doesn't mean you will be immune from the dangers of the enemy. The enemy loves to see Christians and specifically church members disobey God, divide their church family, and destroy ministries within the church. One tool the enemy uses is pride. As Pr. 16:18 reads, “Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.” John’s heart was in the right place. He desired to see people focus on the Son of God and the Savior of the world. John wanted the watching world to remember Jesus’ name, not his name.
Trouble comes when we fail to follow John’s example. God longs for His Son to increase and for His servants to decrease. Jesus increases when He becomes the “thread” of every thing we do for the Lord, when our preferences and opinions are laid to the side, when He receives the glory and honor that are due Him, when His grace is embraced and given, and when He is followed with heartfelt devotion and surrender.
As you reflect on your life, are you following John’s inspirational example? Are you putting the Lord's work and desires over your own opinions and preferences?
